Q. When can I start registering .MOBI domains?

The Sunrise Period

The Sunrise Registration Period, launching in May 2006, is divided into two phases.

• Limited Industry Sunrise
May 22nd to May 29th
Members of mobile industry trade associations GSMA, CTIA, MMA, CWTA and MEF have an exclusive opportunity to register their trademarked names during an eight-day Limited Industry Sunrise Period from May 22 to May 29 2006.
• Trademark Sunrise
June 12th to 22nd September
Monday June 12th is the start of the Trademark Sunrise when all other trademark holders can register their trademark as dotmobi domain names.

Trademark owners will have to provide the following information when registering their names during the sunrise Registration Period:

• Trademark name (must be three or more ASCII characters)
• Trademark identification number
• Date of Trademark application (this date must be before July 11th 2005)
• Date of granting of trademark
• Country of trademark registration
• Domain names should be composed of ASCII characters identical to the textual or word elements of the mark only.

The Sunrise Registration is a FCFS process where the first registrant applying for .Mobi during the sunrise will actually register the domain name, however may be a subject to a challenge by any other entity. Therefore, unlike other Sunrise process, e.g .EU, it is not a multi-application process for the same domain name, but a simple registration process limited by the right to register during the Sunrise period.

General Registration

Beginning on 11 October dotmobi registration is open to everyone. This is known as General Registration which continues indefinitely. General Registration commences with a short two week registration period known as Landrush when desirable dotmobi domain names may be registered at a premium price.

Q. What is the Sunrise Registration period?
The Sunrise Registration is an exclusive period of time prior to General Registration when the owners of Intellectual Property, such as Trademark holders, have an opportunity to register their desired names in the .mobi Top Level Domain. It is a service provided by the dotmobi registry to protect the rights of the owners of Intellectual Property.

Q. Who is eligible to register a Sunrise domain name?
Only qualified Trademarks holders may register their domain names during the Sunrise period. A qualified Trademark owner for the purposes of the Sunrise Registration Period is anyone who holds a Trademark or Service mark of national effect, applied for prior to July 11, 2005 and granted before the date of the domain name application. The domain name itself must also meet certain rules.

Q. What is a valid Sunrise Registration?

• A domain registered by a Registrant who holds a Trademark or Service mark applied for prior to July 11, 2005 and granted before the date of the domain name application, and at the time of the registration of the Domain Name, a trademark or service mark was registered in the name of the Registrant, and was current (non-expired).
• The textual or word elements of the trademark or service mark registration are identical to the Domain Name.
• The trademark or service mark registration is of national effect.

Q. How Sunrise domain are verified?
The applicant is responsible to ensure the application is complete and accurate. mTLD Registry reserves the right to randomly check the validity of Trademark documents and other required information during the Sunrise Period. mTLD reserves the right to cancel any applications which it deems not to meet the eligibility criteria.

Q. The Sunrise Challenge Period
This is a period following the end of the Sunrise Period, where a challenge may be lodged against the awarding of a domain name to a registrant. The Sunrise Challenge Period begins on Monday, the 28th of August, 2006 and ends on Friday, th of December, 2006.
During the Sunrise Challenge Period, anyone can submit a challenge against a Sunrise Registrant, in order to force the Registrant to show the evidence for its valid Sunrise registration. A challenge may be issued also for transferring the domain to the Challenger where the challenger has a valid trade mark according to the .Mobi Sunrise eligibility.

Q. What is the Landrush Registration period?
Landrush is a two-week period of time prior to General Registration during which individuals or organizations may register their dotmobi domain name through a registrar at a premium price.

Q. Who is eligible to register a domain name during the Landrush Registration period? Any individual or organization who agrees to the terms and conditions of the dotmobi Accredited registrar of the mTLD may register a .mobi domain name during Landrush and General Registration.

Q. What is the General Registration period?
General Registration is the period during which individuals and organisations may register their dotmobi domain name through a registrar. General Registration continues indefinitely.

Any individual or organisation who agrees to the terms and conditions of the dotmobi accredited registrar of the mTLD may register a .mobi domain name during General Registration.
